Moana is NOT a princess

It’s clearly stated in the movie, MORE THAN ONCE that she’s NOT a princess. She is the chiefs daughter. ‼️SPOILER ALERT‼️ She becomes the chief of her village at the end of the movie? Why does everyone ignore this? This is like saying Venellope Von Schweetz is a Disney princess. She claimed herself as president at the end of Wreck It Ralph. Moana being categorized as a Disney Princess bothers me. But that’s just my opinion. I just wanna hear what everyone else thinks.

Well when they say ‘Disney Princess’ they don’t refer to just anyone who is royal in the entire Disney Universe; otherwise there would be like 20 princesses, they refer to the women they use for all their ‘Disney Princess’ merchandise, and also use as role models for children(Cinderella, Aroura, Ariel, etc.) Not all of them actually need to be royal, such as Mulan or Pocahontas; the only real criteria to qualify are: 

Be Human 

Be from the  first movie

Be born or marry royal by the end of the movie

OR

Perform an act of great heroism

That last one was obviously introduced for Mulan to qualify, but thanks to its intoduction we can use it to mark Moana as ‘Disney Princess’

Hope that helped cleared things up

(plus Pocahontas is also chiefs daughter, and she also is in the line-up, though she did also perform an act of heroism)
